Chris Krebs, former CISA director and current political punching bag for the US President, says his Global Entry membership was revoked.

The news comes after Trump vowed to strip Krebs of his security clearances as part of his grudge against the cyber luminary, who has repeatedly discredited the President’s claims about the allegedly unsecured nature of the 2020 election.

Global Entry is a program that allows low-risk and pre-approved travelers to enter the US while skipping the usual processing lines at border control, saving airport travel time.

Individuals from a wide selection of countries can apply, but shouldn’t expect to be approved if they have been denied the purchase of a firearm in the past, have any prior convictions, are the subject of an ongoing law enforcement investigation, or have any pending criminal charges.

To that end, Krebs lost his Global Entry membership because Trump ordered a criminal investigation into him and security shop SentinelOne, which has federal contracts and up until this week employed Krebs.

According to CNN, which first reported the development, Krebs was notified via email on Wednesday afternoon of the change to his Trusted Traveler Program status. The broadcaster reported that Krebs “finds it hard to believe this isn’t another act of retribution from the administration.”

Referring to Krebs’ Global Entry news, Katie Moussouris, CEO at Luta Security, said via X: “If you’re on the fence about signing on to that EFF letter to support [Chris Krebs], please consider doing it sooner rather than later. Don’t wait until there’s no one left to speak for you.”

Moussouris was referring to the open letter, led by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), signed and sent to Trump this week, which implored the President to quit his campaign against the cyber chief he appointed in 2017.

The letter, which at the time was signed by the EFF and 40 other cybersecurity figureheads, including Moussouris, accused the President of bullying Krebs and argued that questioning the latter’s position on the 2020 election was dangerous for national security.

“By placing Krebs and SentinelOne in the crosshairs, the President is signaling that cybersecurity professionals whose findings do not align with his narrative risk having their businesses and livelihoods subjected to spurious and retaliatory targeting, the same bullying tactic he has recently used against law firms,” the letter reads.

“As members of the cybersecurity profession and information security community, we counter with a strong stand in defense of our professional obligation to report truthful findings, even – and especially – when they do not fit the playbook of the powerful. And we stand with Chris Krebs for doing just that.”

After losing to Joe Biden in the 2020 Presidential election, Trump claimed it was rigged and that Krebs – CISA boss at the time – covered up evidence of its insecurity. These are the claims that preceded the 2021 Capitol riots and Trump has continued to repeat them ever since, even after regaining office.

On April 9, the White House issued a presidential memo ordering a criminal investigation into Krebs and SentinelOne over Trump’s claims, while also revoking their security clearances.

The memo went on to accuse Krebs of colluding with social media companies during the COVID-19 pandemic to censor “disfavored speech” and push CISA’s own political line on the matter.

Krebs resigned from his role at SentinelOne last week, saying he took the decision himself without being pushed out of the company, and promised to take on the “tough fight” set by the President alone.

“For those who know me, you know I don’t shy away from tough fights,” Krebs said in an open email to SentinelOne staff via LinkedIn.

“But I also know this is one I need to take on fully – outside of SentinelOne. This will require my complete focus and energy. It’s a fight for democracy, for freedom of speech, and for the rule of law. I’m prepared to give it everything I’ve got.”
